Governance and Transparency

The Oesophageal Cancer Fund is committed to transparency and accountability in all that we do. We work to the highest standards of governance and accountability. 

During 2023 a full assessment of the Oesophageal Cancer Fund’s compliance with the Charites Governance Code was undertaken. The Board are satisfied that the Oesophageal Cancer Fund is compliant with the Charities Governance Code and Guidelines for Charitable Organisations Fundraising from the Public.

The Oesophageal Cancer Fund has been registered as a charitable association an unincorporated charity from inception in 2001. In 2023 we are in the process of moving from an unincorporated charity to an incorporate charity. 

The Triple Lock

The Oesophageal Cancer Fund has been awarded the Triple Lock Standard by the Charities Institute Ireland (CII).

The Triple Lock Standard is awarded to charities that uphold the highest standards in transparent reporting, ethical fundraising and strong governance structures. This recognition is the gold standard for Irish charities to offer assurances to donors, supporters and the general public.

To achieve the Triple Lock, we:

• Maintain compliance with the Guidelines for Charitable Organisations on Fundraising from the Public.
• Prepare our annual financial statements in compliance with the Charity SORP (Statement of Recommended Practice under FRS102) accounting standard. 
• Completed the full implementation of the Charities Regulator Charities Governance Code

We are committed to keeping our compliance with the above standards under ongoing review.

Financial Statements

The Oesophageal Cancer Fund’s financial statements are prepared in compliance with Charities SORP FRS102, which is the recommended standard for charities.

Fundraising Accountability 

 The Oesophageal Cancer Fund does not receive statutory funding and is therefore, reliant on fundraising from the public. The Oesophageal Cancer Fund is committed to adhering to the Charities Regulator Guidelines for Charitable Organisations on Fundraising from the Public. Carrying out all fundraising activities in an open, transparent, honest, respectful and accountable manner. 

Oesophageal Cancer Fund Public Statement on Compliance with the Charities Regulator Guidelines on Fundraising

The Oesophageal Cancer Fund (OCF) is committed to adhering to the Charities Regulator Guidelines for Charitable Organisations on Fundraising from the Public. The Oesophageal Cancer Fund does not receive statutory funding and is therefore, reliant on fundraising from the public. The Oesophageal Cancer Fund is committed to carrying out all fundraising activities in an open, transparent, honest, respectful and accountable manner. 

  • The Oesophageal Cancer Fund is committed to complying with the Charities Regulator Guidelines for Fundraising and has formally discussed and adopted the public statement at a meeting of the governing body.

  • The Oesophageal Cancer Fund confirms its commitment to the principles set out in the Charities Regulator Guidelines for Fundraising by a statement to that effect on the website and in all future publications such as annual reports and strategic plans.

  • The Oesophageal Cancer Fund has a Donor Charter which is consistent with the Charities Regulator Guidelines for Fundraising 

  • The Oesophageal Cancer Fund regularly monitors compliance with the Charities Regulator Guidelines for Fundraising and compliance reports are received regularly by the governing body.

  • The Oesophageal Cancer Fund considers the Charities Regulator Guidelines for Fundraising when planning all fundraising activities.

  • The Oesophageal Cancer Fund has a procedure on working with third party fundraisers (if applicable).

  • The Oesophageal Cancer Fund provides honest, open and transparent disclosure when fundraising from the public.

  • The Oesophageal Cancer Fund has appointed a senior member of staff to be responsible for compliance with the Charities Regulator Guidelines for Fundraising.

  • The Oesophageal Cancer Fund ensures that fundraising staff are provided with information and training on the Charities Regulator Guidelines for Fundraising and its implementation.

  • The Oesophageal Cancer Fund has a feedback and complaints procedure consistent with the Charities Regulator Guidelines for Fundraising. Feedback is recorded for review by relevant staff including the CEO. Feedback is responded to promptly and appropriately.

  • The Oesophageal Cancer Fund prepares financial reports consistent with the requirements of the Charities Act 2009 which includes a statement concerning the extent to which control of the organisation is independent of its funding sources.

  • The Oesophageal Cancer Fund ensures that all donations are tracked and recorded and complies with data protection requirements.

  • The Oesophageal Cancer Fund is accessible to the public through a number of readily available contact options.
