Get Involved with OCF, the national charity for Oesophageal Cancer in Ireland.

The Impact of Your Support

Sean O'Keffe's Story

“I had been suffering from pain and discomfort in my chest when I heard OCF patron Pádraig Harrington on the radio talking about his father who had passed away from Oesophageal Cancer.

He mentioned his father’s symptoms and that he used to take medication for acid reflux. That really struck a chord with me. If I hadn’t heard Padraig that day, I might not have done anything for six months, or even a year.

I could have just put off the discomfort as indigestion. I was lucky that my Oesophageal Cancer was detected early.

Impact of Your Support

Holly Woods

Holly was a young, healthy and active music teacher who loved to play hockey  when she was diagnosed with stage 4, terminal Oesophageal Cancer at just 26 years old. Determined to continue fighting, Holly was accepted into a clinical research trial where after 3 months, her cancer was no longer present.

“The only reason that I’m still alive today is because of research into this cancer which is funded by charities like the OCF. The work that you do in fundraising for the OCF has very tangible, real effects in the everyday lives of people like me. Thank you.”
