In September 2022, Aoife Dalton joined our Remember in September Marathon in a Month Challenge to fundraise in memory of her beloved Dad, Michael McDonald, who passed away just a year previously.

“My Dad Michael was diagnosed with Oesophageal Cancer in April 2021. He worked really hard exercising every day to get his lungs healthy for the operation but unfortunately 2 weeks after he finished chemotherapy, he ended up in hospital with complications. He never had the operation and he lost his short battle on August 19th 2021, surrounded by his family playing his favourite music by Luke Kelly.”

It was particularly important for Aoife to honour her Dad to mark his birthday:

“Dad’s birthday is September 11th, so I wanted to do this as a gift to him – to raise awareness and funds for Oesophageal Cancer. He is missed dearly as a husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend and just as a friendly face in the village of Slieverue. The song has ended but his melody lingers on.”
