Leave a Lasting Legacy
Lucilla Hyland left behind a legacy more than 21 years ago. Before her passing from Oesophageal Cancer, she organised a fundraising event from her hospital bed to help raise awareness of this cancer - one that she had never even heard of before her diagnosis at just 41 years old.
Two decades later and that fundraising event has become the Oesophageal Cancer Fund. Today the Oesopahgeal Cancer Fund is the national charity for Oesophageal Cancer in Ireland, funding life-saving cancer research, supporting patients and families affected and raising awareness to further advancements in the early diagnosis and prevention of this aggressive cancer.
Lucilla could never have imagined the ongoing, lasting impact that her legacy would have.

“The only reason that I’m still alive today is because of research into this cancer which is funded by charities like the OCF. The work that you do in fundraising for the OCF has very tangible, real effects in the everyday lives of people like me. Thank you.”
